Does the thought of building
a website fill you with dread? I’ve been there and looking
back the dread comes from not knowing where to start and what is
available. Even trying to find a web designer is a painful
process for many of you.
Hopefully, this article
will show you that building a website or learning the process is
easier than you think.
If you are not happy with
the outcome of your efforts, you can always pass the project on
to a professional designer!
Now for my list of
resources for you to take your website live:
Choose and register a
GOOD domain name.
Choosing the right domain
name to represent your business is imperative. There are a
couple of guidelines to follow when choosing your name:
- Give the user an idea
of your business in the name
- Try to include a
relevant keyword.
Some tools you may want to
consider using include:
- Wordtracker
to locate keywords that you may use in your domain name.
- Domain
tools – to check availability of selected domain name.
- Netfirms
to register your domain name. (Only $5.95)
Hosting Your Site.
When choosing a host you
need reliability with the service (at least 99.9% uptime) and
24/7 customer support. Other features that I’ve found valuable
include one click installation scripts, a free domain name or
two, multiple account hosting and no hassle upgrades.
My favorite solution? Web
Hosting Buzz. Their packages are always priced right for my
budget and their customer support is out of this world. Right
now they are offering 50% their special offer (for 1125 Gb). Check
them out.
HTML Editors – Site
Builders
Its always helpful when
you have a good editor to modify your pages when creating and/or
maintaining your website. With the software recommended below
you can build a website with little or no HTML knowledge.
- Nvu
A free tool that you can use for editing and building web
pages with no HTML expertise.
- Dreamweaver
Another great
tool if you are willing to pay the price.
